On August 21, 2024, Niti organized an interaction event in Pokhara, Gandaki Province headquarter with select constitutional bodies, Gandaki Assembly Members, and civil society organizations based in the region to discuss the relationships between constitutional bodies and Gandaki Province Assembly and to implement the provisions in Gandaki’s Provincial Rules that allow for the discussion of reports from constitutional bodies. It brought together Chairpersons of National Dalit Commission and Indigenous Nationalities Commission, the Chairpersons of Gandaki’s Parliamentary Committees, Deputy Speaker of the Provincial Parliament, Chairpersons of Provincial Commissions as well as CSOs working on issues concerning Dalit and Indigenous rights. Along with the discussion on increasing interaction between the commissions and the provincial parliament, the event also focused on mechanisms to address the issues raised by these commissions in the provincial parliament for better protection of Dalit and Indigenous minorities in Gandaki Province. During the event, the Deputy Speaker of the Provincial Assembly pledged to ensure regular discussions on the Commissions’ Annual Reports, while the Chairperson of the National Dalit Commission committed to timely submissions of these reports to Provincial Assemblies.
