Niti Foundation undertook a comprehensive baseline survey to assess public perceptions of safety and security in Nepal, focusing on Nepal Police’s role and performance. With over three decades since Nepal’s transition to democracy, it is critical to evaluate how effectively the police have embraced the democratic values and human rights enshrined in the 2015 Constitution.
A survey undertaken by Niti Foundation in 2020 highlighted challenges in police impartiality and effectiveness, revealing a need for significant reform. As Nepal works towards restructuring the police force to better serve all communities, this new survey aims to capture current public opinions and inform future developments in policing strategies. By understanding citizens’ views and identifying areas for improvement, this initiative is supporting the creation of a more accountable and effective law enforcement system for a democratic and federal Nepal.
