In the federal system in Nepal, the provinces require significant support to plan and implement a new law enforcement architecture that can position police services as the vanguard of transformed public services in federal Nepal. In addition to legal and regulatory platforms for law enforcement, provincial political leadership need to consider customized policing approaches for different geographies, socioeconomic communities, human resource management, training facilities and curricula, interprovincial protocols, and federal requirements for public security.
In response to the requests of the provincial governments in Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Surdurpaschim, and with the support of International Criminal Investigation Training Assistance Program under the United States Department of Justice (DOJ/ICITAP), Niti Foundation is supporting the development and professionalisation of Nepal Police as well as the establishment of provincial police institutions.
